NEW YORK (CBS Cleveland) – There’s an attempted burglary in the neighborhood. Who you gonna call? The Euclid SWAT team.
Two adult men were arrested Tuesday morning on burglary charges after being surrounded and apprehended by the SWAT team, which happened to be training close to the scene, according to WTAM 1100 in Cleveland.
Around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, a Euclid citizen noticed two adult men acting suspiciously around a neighbor’s home, which was unoccupied at the time. Once the first responding officers came to the scene, the police decided that instead of calling on the patrol division to handle the situation, the nearby SWAT team was going to take care of it, Euclid Police Sgt. Mitch Houser told CBS Cleveland.
“Surrounding and barricading suspects is a specialty of theirs, so we decided, ‘Hey, let’s give them a call,’” Houser said. “It doesn’t happen very often.”
He added: “If you’ve got the tools, why mess around?”
Houser lauded the “fantastic citizenry” exhibited by the neighbor in immediately reporting the situation, as well as an element of good luck. The arrest Tuesday comes at a time where the community has seen a recent spike in the number of burglaries, Houser said.
“We’re dealing with them as best we can,” he said.
The suspects remain in custody. No official court date has been set. Additional charges are pending.
