I can describe the Browns in three simple words… bad and boring. Not a good combination. This team makes the great fans of Cleveland suffer through awful football week after week after week after… I think you get the point. Each week we hope to see a football team that resembles… well… a football team but, instead we are stuck watching a predictable mess that makes you want to stick a fork in your eye… or at least switch the channel to watch the Packers. The Browns are like the guy driving 10 MPH below the speed limit in the left lane on the highway that you give a dirty look to when you go to pass him. Who is the guy driving that car? None other than Pat Shurmur. The Browns rookie head coach has been a poor leader, play caller, decision maker, clock manager and just about everything else. He has failed to improve this team or its players in any way-not that he is helped by the talent on the offense. Colt McCoy has regressed, the WR’s can’t hold on to the ball, the OL is mediocre on a good day and Peyton Hillis can’t stay on the field. Well, at least we only have to watch them play 4 more times.
On a more positive note, basketball is back! In the college ranks, Ohio State is off to a great start and if Jared Sullinger can stay healthy they should have a really big year with a great chance to get to the final 4. As for the Cavs, I think they may surprise us this year. Kyrie Irving and Tristan Thompson may be set back a bit early in the season by a shortened pre-season… but, it will help them late in the year, and maybe they can avoid hitting the rookie wall. If the Cavs add the right pieces in the next few, weeks a .500 season is not out of the question.
Speaking of adding pieces, the Indians need to do just that during the off season if they expect to contend in the AL Central in 2012. They desperately need a 1B, preferably one that can hit 30-plus home runs, although that may be a tough task for them to accomplish given their limited payroll options. In addition to 1B they must add to the depth in both the infield and the outfield.
As for me, I am loving life in Cleveland, although I can’t say the same for my waistline. I have continued to try and hit all the restaurants that people have recommended to me. Most recently I made my first appearance at Sokolowski’s… WOW! I ordered the breaded pork chops with a triple (yes, a triple) side of pierogi. It was amazing! Arguably the best meal I have had since moving to Northeast Ohio and I have had some really great meals. My wife and I continue to keep Mitchell’s Ice Cream in business as well. We are there so often the manager knows us by name. This week I will finally get to Slyman’s. My mouth is already watering!
I really appreciate all the great support from the listeners, callers and tweeters. We have a show Twitter page: @bullandfox. I’ll talk to you all again… weekdays at 2… RIGHT HERE… on the FAN!
