COLUMBUS (92.3 The Fan) - The Ohio State men’s and women’s basketball teams have been selected for the second “Carrier Classic” to open their season’s later this year the Columbus Dispatch reports.
The men’s team would play Marquette and the women’s team would play Notre Dame.
The paper reports that the games are scheduled for Nov. 9.
Last year, Michigan State and North Carolina met aboard the USS Carl Vinson in San Diego and the event was a hit.
ESPN would televise both games which will reportedly be played aboard the USS Yorktown in Charleston, South Carolina.
Ohio State’s men’s team was originally scheduled to open the season at home Nov. 9 against Albany as part of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame Tipoff tournament but the game is expected to be moved to Nov. 11.
The Dispatch reports that the final details, including the contract, for the event are being finalized and an announcement is expected within a few weeks.
