BEREA (92.3 The Fan) - Cleveland Browns coach Pat Shurmur said last week he’d like to name a starting quarterback “sooner rather than later.”
He’s apparently getting closer to a decision.
Shurmur said Tuesday that he has an idea of who the starting quarterback, as well as backup, will be.
“I have an idea of how this thing is going to work out,” Shurmur said.
However he was unwilling to provide any other details.
“Sooner than later I’ll make sure I name a starter for you,” Shurmur said. “I don’t see the urgency (to name one).”
Rookie Brandon Weeden has continued to receive the first reps with the first team offense in front of Colt McCoy.
Shurmur also thinks all three quarterbacks – Weeden, Seneca Wallace and Colt McCoy could be on the roster come week one of the season.
“I think that’s still very real in my mind,” Shurmur said. “I can see a scenario where all three players you’re talking about will be here.”
