CORBIN, Ky. (AP) — A central Kentucky sheriff’s investigator said a couple charged with trading a truck for an infant initially claimed the baby was the product of an extramarital affair, but later said they traded a truck for the boy.

Laurel County Sheriff’s Lt. Rodney Van Zant told The Times-Tribune that 31-year-old Jeremy Brown and 33-year-old Jamiee Brown swapped the 1999 Dodge Dakota pickup for the boy, who is now 6-months old and was later found in the couple’s home in Corbin.

Laurel County Sheriff John Root says 30-year-old Heather Kaminskey is wanted on charges of human trafficking, but hasn’t been seen in Laurel County for several days.

Root told the Lexington Herald-Leader that Kaminskey traded the infant to the Browns. The couple is charged with human trafficking.

Sheriff’s Lt. Rodney Van Zant told The Times-Tribune said Kaminesky sold the truck for $800 and an undisclosed amount of methamphetamine.

By using information about the vehicle, the owners were found.

Van Zant said investigators found the baby boy at with the Browns. Van Zant said the Browns first said the baby was the product of an extra-marital affair between Jeremy Brown and Kaminskey.

Van Zant said the Browns later changed their story “which was that they had acquired the child pretty much right from birth and had taken it in, and given Kaminskey the truck in trade.”

Van Zant said Kaminesky’s family in Florida said the woman fled that state after having two other children removed by Florida social services.

Van Zant says the child is in state custody.

The Browns remained in the Laurel County Jail on Friday. Jail records did not list an attorney for either. The Browns placed their three children with other family members.
