CLEVELAND (92.3 The Fan) – If there’s one thing you can almost always count on when it comes to Indians pitcher Derek Lowe, it’s a good quote.

Friday night after he matched a career-high in allowing 9 runs in just three innings, Lowe was visibly shaken and quiet at his locker as the Indians were pounded by the Orioles 10-2.

“I really have nothing to say, the game speaks for itself,” Lowe said. “It was an embarrassing game, I have a lot of work to do.”

Lowe isn’t wrong in his summary of what’s going on with his pitching. He’s gone from at one point a pitcher who could do no wrong, to now one that can’t seem to get anyone out.

He’s now lost five of his last six decisions, and has put up just two wins over his last 11 starts.

“The way I started, and then now over the last six weeks, it couldn’t be any different,” Lowe said. “It’s embarrassing, frustrating, all of the above. Just a non-competitive game.”

A big part of Lowe’s issues is his recent inability to command his sinker and get it over for strikes. Early in the season it was working, and now it’s killed him.

Friday night he also wasn’t able to get much over for strikes, as he threw just 45 percent of his pitches for strikes, and was behind to O’s hitters all night.

It seems more and more to be a broken record to his recent bad stretch of starts.

“I’ve always said my whole career it really doesn’t matter what you think of your stuff, the hitters will tell you,” Lowe said. “I really have nothing to say, it was an embarrassing outing.”

There isn’t much Lowe hasn’t seen over his 17 years in the Majors. Last season he was having a so-so season with the Braves, going 9-12.

Then in September he had one of the worst months of his career, going 0-5 allowing 23 earned runs in 23.2 innings.

You have to wonder if his confidence is as shaken as it was last September, and if so, how he plans on changing it so this season isn’t a total repeat of 2011.

“This game is all about confidence, and there’s so much time for me to watch video,” Lowe said. “I’m just going to have to put a lot of hard work in, because this hasn’t been a lot of fun.”

It’s not been a lot of fun to watch, and if Lowe can’t get things turned back around, it doesn’t look like it’s going to be fun anytime soon.
