CLEVELAND (92.3 The Fan) – Lopey time is officially over.
The Indians have announced that INF Jose Lopez is the latest vet to be shown the door, as today the team designated him for assignment.
His roster spot will be taken by pitcher Frank Herrmann, who has spent the entire season with AAA Columbus after fighting for a job in the spring with the pen.
Lopez hit .249 (53-213) with 13 2B, 4HR & 28 RBI in 66 games over two stints with the Indians this year. He did play in Monday night’s 14-3 loss, playing at third base and collecting two singles.
The 28-year-old Herrmann went 2-2 with 7 saves (9 chances) and a 4.28 ERA in 39 relief appearances (48.1IP, 51H, 23ER, 13BB, 53K, .274AVG) with the Clippers.
He is averaging 9.9 strikeouts per 9.0IP and has a strikeout to walk ratio of 4.1 (53K/13BB). Over his last seven outings since July 21 he has posted an ERA of 1.23 (7.1IP, 3H, 1R/ER, 6K).
