WESTLAKE, Ohio (CBS Cleveland) — An Ohio man is accused of trying to bring in a gun and knives during a showing of Batman at a Westlake movie theater.
WKYC-TV reports 37-year-old Scott Smith was arrested Monday after bringing a gun, ammunition, and knives into a Saturday night showing of “The Dark Knight Rises” at Regal Cinemas.
The theater’s manager and an off-duty Westlake police officer found a 9mm Glock and ammunition when searching the suspect’s satchel after he took his seat inside the movie theater.
The man was arrested without incident Monday night after a search warrant was executed at his North Ridgeville home, the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
Moviegoers were shocked over the arrest.
“That’s really scary,” Jennifer Moore told WKYC. “We were just talking about copycats, and about if someone hears something, and they do it.”
No motive has been given for this incident.
The incident comes more than two weeks after alleged gunman James Holmes killed 12 people at an Aurora, Colo., movie theater during “The Dark Knight Rises.”
CBS Cleveland has reached out to the Westlake Police Department for comment.
