TOKYO, Japan (CBS Cleveland) – People in Japan will be asking “Where’s the lobster?” instead of “Where’s the beef?”
A Wendy’s in Japan will be adding a Lobster Surf & Turf Burger and a Caviar & Lobster sandwich to its Premium Menu for a limited time. Just don’t expect these sandwiches to be served in the United States.
“No plans for a lobster-and-hamburger sandwich here,” Bob Bertini, a spokesman for Wendy’s, told The Columbus Dispatch.
The two new sandwiches will cost up to $20.
According to Bertini, Wendy’s left Japan in 2009 but then returned again in December 2011.
When it returned to Japan, Wendy’s changed their menu by offering some higher-end sandwiches, including a Porcini Grilled Chicken Sandwich and a Foie Gras Rossini.
“Each market is different and seafood is a big part of the diet in Japan,” Bertini told CBS Cleveland.
The sandwiches coincide with a new restaurant opening Aug. 17, which will be the second Wendy’s in Tokyo.
The new store is offering a free tote bag to its first 500 customers at the new location as part of the promotion, Bertini said.
Wendy’s — which is based out of Dublin, Ohio — is hoping to open 100 restaurants in Japan within five years.
