CLEVELAND (92.3 The Fan) – Outfielder Michael Brantley led the Indians with a .288 average this past season, and it appears may have played some of it dealing with a sports hernia.
The center fielder underwent surgery this morning in Philadelphia, PA to repair the sports hernia on the left side of his abdominal wall.
The 24-minute procedure was performed by Dr. William Meyerrans. The typical recovery time is 3-6 weeks, and involves restricting movement as well as lifting heavy objects to not tear the mesh lining that was used to repair the hernia.
The Indians stated that Brantley will begin physical therapy early next week at his home in Florida and he is expected to be unrestricted when he begins his off-season strength and conditioning regimen in late November.
