BEREA (92.3 The Fan) - Cleveland Browns rookie running back Trent Richardson is day to day with a rib injury.
Coach Pat Shurmur clarified Richardson’s status on Monday after he missed the bulk of the second half due to what the team called a ‘flank’ injury.
“Trent’s fine,” Shurmur said Monday. “He has a right rib cartilage injury and he’s day to day.”
Richardson underwent further evaluation on Monday and the injury isn’t serious.
The first 4 plays in Sunday’s 34-24 win over the Bengals went to Richardson.
Richardson took a shot to the ribs from a helmet in the first half and finished with 37 yards on 14 carries. He also caught 2 passes for 17 yards. Richardson left the game midway through the third quarter and did not return.
“I took a shot, but I’ll be back,” Richardson said following the game. “I’ll be ready for next week. I was in and out of the game and I tried to do as much as I could while I was in the game. Coach (Shurmur) didn’t want to take the risk of me being injured even more.”
Montario Hardesty spelled Richardson and rushed 15 times for 56 yards and his first NFL touchdown.
