(CLEVELAND 92.3 The Fan) – Last week it was announced by Sandy Alomar would be coming back to the Indians to serve on new manager Terry Francona’s staff.
He may want to put those plans on hold.
Late Saturday night it was announced a “deal” between the Red Sox and Blue Jays that would send former Indians pitcher John Farrell to the Red Sox as their new manager, meaning that the Jays manager spot is wide open.
Already it’s being reported that Alomar, who spoke to the Jays last year about their opening, is the front runner for the position. Even before Boston officially Farrell, the thought was Alomar would be a top candidate for the Jays job.
Fox Sports baseball insider Jon Morosi reported that Alomar will also talk to the Rockies about their manager opening. Alomar played for the Rockies for a short time near the end of his career.
One interesting side note if Alomar does wind up as the Jays manager – the Indians open the season in Toronto.
