ANN ARBOR (WWJ) - A new U of M Mott Children’s Hospital poll shows the majority of adults believe children should be 13 or older to use the web by themselves.
Poll Director and Pediatrician Matthew Davis said the Federal Trade Commission is proposing changes to the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act.
But Dr. Davis said safety online all boils down to parent’s keeping up with their kids internet usage.
“What I say to parents is that there are many parts to this puzzle to keep our kids safe online. A key part is how parents are monitoring their kids use of the internet, and of apps and of social media networks,” said Dr. Davis. “We have to encourage kids to let us know when they might be worried about losing their private information or falling prey to predators.”
He stresses that parents must talk with their kids about using the Internet safely and help them avoid dangerous situations.
