YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (CBS Cleveland) – How does one steal a 300-pound pig? By stealing the car the pig happens to be in the back seat of.
According to WFMJ-TV, Youngstown police are investigating a “pig-napping” after authorities recovered a wrecked Nissan Cube with Penelope the pig inside of it.
“I opened the door and when I looked in the back I was shocked. It is big,” John Weslolwsi of Schultz Automotive and Towing told the station.
“This isn’t something we see every day,” Chuck Sayer of the Mahoning County Humane Society told WFMJ. “Usually dogs, cats, domestic animals, usually not a pot-belly pig that weighs 300 pounds.”
The station reports that Wendy Thrasher came forward as the pig’s owner. She explained that the pet pig was being kept in the temporarily in the vehicle after her home in Pennsylvania caught fire because she is staying with friends.
“She is a little weirded out right now,” Thrasher told the station. “I’m sure she’s weirded out. Whoever stole the car, I’m wondering if that’s why they wrecked it.”
Police currently have no suspects.
