BEREA (92.3 The Fan) - The Cleveland Browns placed receiver Mohamed Massaquoi on injured reserve Monday.
The team also signed quarterback Thaddeus Lewis from the practice squad.
Lewis was elevated to provide insurance should starter Brandon Weeden be unable to play Sunday at Pittsburgh. He would back up McCoy if Weeden, who sustained a right shoulder sprain during the 3rd quarter of Sunday’s 34-12 loss to Denver, is unable to play.
Massaquoi played in 9 games this season – including 5 starts – and caught 17 passes for 254 yards but did not score a touchdown.
Massaquoi sustained a knee injury during practice on Dec. 19 and was inactive against the Broncos. He missed 5 games earlier in the year with a hamstring injury.
Lewis appeared in all 4 preseason games completing 9 of 17 passes for 146 yards and an interception. He was inactive for the first 5 games this season before clearing waivers and being moved to the practice squad.
