NEW YORK (AP) — The father of Notre Dame linebacker Manti Te’o is defending his son against suspicions he used the hoax involving his “dead” imaginary girlfriend.
Brian Te’o joined his son for the taping an interview to air Thursday on Katie Couric’s syndicated talk show. He came to his son’s defense when Couric pointed out that many people don’t believe the Irish star.
Brian Te’o had tears in his eyes as told Couric, “People can speculate about what they think he is. I’ve known him 21 years of his life. And he’s not a liar.”
Manti Te’o told Couric he played no part in the hoax but admitted he answered questions about the girlfriend even after learning she wasn’t dead.
