CLEVELAND (92.3 The Fan) – Browns fans can once again celebrate, former owner Art Modell has been once again shut out of the Hall of Fame.
Modell, who ripped the hearts out of Browns fans when he moved the team to Baltimore after the 1995 season, didn’t get enough votes for the honor of having a bust in Canton.
It’s been a week of debate among new and old Browns fans about Modell, but most agreed that they would rather not seem him in the Hall in Canton. Modell was one of 15 finalists up for election.
The former owner was a semifinalist for eight of the past nine years and was a finalist in 2001 and 2013.
Most thought that it would be his year, with his passing just before the season started, and also his former team, the Ravens, playing in Sunday’s Super Bowl XLVII vs the San Francisco 49ers.
CBS Sports’ Clark Judge, one of the 46 voters, tweeted that the voting for this years class took over eight hours to complete.
