CLEVELAND (92.3 The Fan) – Cleveland Cavaliers guard Kyrie Irving will be very busy come All Star Weekend.
Irving, who is a reserve for the Eastern Conference, was selected Thursday to participate in the 3-point shootout portion of the skills competition to be held on Feb. 16.
“I’m really looking forward to competing in the Foot Locker Three-Point Contest,” Irving said. “It’s an honor to be part of the entire All-Star weekend and I’m thankful for the opportunity. I know it’s going to be a very special experience, even more so with my Cavalier teammates there as well.”
The reigning rookie of the year was also selected as the 3rd overall pick during Thursday nights “draft” for the Rookie Challenge game between rookies and sophomores.
Former NBA superstars and current NBA on TNT analysts Shaquille O’Neal and Charles Barkley are again serving as general managers for the 2 teams – ‘Team Shaq’ and ‘Team Chuck.’
Irving, who scored 34 points to take home MVP honors from the game last year, will be joined by both of his rookie teammates for this year’s contest which will be played on Friday night of All Star weekend.
Both Dion Waiters and Tyler Zeller were selected to play on ‘Team Shaq’ while forward Tristan Thompson was selected for ‘Team Chuck.’
Fans will vote on the starting lineups for both teams.
