GOODYEAR, Ariz. (AP) — Carlos Peguero hit two solo homers and young Danny Hultzen and Taijuan Walker combined to pitch four scoreless innings as the Seattle Mariners beat the Cleveland Indians 5-1 on Wednesday.
Indians starter Brett Myers worked three innings. He allowed a single and got seven ground-ball outs before Peguero connected in the third.
Hultzen, a 2011 first-round pick, struck out four over two innings. Walker, a 2010 supplemental first-round choice, fanned two over two innings.
Peguero also homered in a three-run fourth. Seattle is 6-0-2 against the Indians since they moved their spring home to Arizona in 2009.
The game was delayed for 5 minutes in the eighth by a false alarm. Fans cleared the stands when an automatic alarm beeped loudly. The scoreboard soon flashed: “False Alarm.”
