GOODYEAR, AZ (92.3 The Fan) – Last season there was plenty of nights the Indians had trouble drawing over 11,000 to Progressive Field.
Saturday night at Goodyear Ballpark, the Tribe and World Champion San Francisco Giants set a ballpark record with 11,023, as the Indians topped the Giants 4-3.
The game turned into an entertaining affair between the Tribe and the champs, as the Giants scored two in the 9th to take a 3-2 lead, only to see the Indians rally for two in the bottom half for the win.
Minor League outfielder Elvi Cid got down to the last strike, then slammed a double to right center that scored the tying and game winning runs.
Carlos Carrasco was as good as at any point this spring in the outing for the Tribe, going five innings, allowing one run on two hits with no walks and five K’s.
The Tribe had a pair of solo homers in the game, with Asdrubal Cabrera giving the Indians a 1-0 lead in the first, and Jason Giambi hit a solo shot in the 5th to make it 2-1.
The Indians are back at it right away on Sunday, as they will play at Goodyear as the road team vs the Reds in a 4:05PM EST start.
Opening day starter Justin Masterson is set to go for the Indians in the game.
