Indians Place Pestano On The DL With Elbow Tendinitis
CLEVELAND (92.3 The Fan) – The Indians for the time being have lost their setup man, as the team announced before Monday’s game that relief pitcher Vinnie Pestano has been placed on the disabled list.
Pestano goes on the 15-day DL retroactive to May 1st with right elbow tendinitis. The injury was first talked about over the weekend after Terry Francona put Cody Allen in Friday’s game instead of Joe Smith.
The manager finally talked about it on Saturday, stating that Pestano’s elbow had been acting up. Pestano talked about it Saturday after the game, and was hoping to avoid the DL.
“It’s something we’ve been monitoring the last couple of years,” Pestano said of the elbow issues.
“It’s something that crops up and comes and goes, and we’ve been able to manage it to a very good degree. This is the first time I haven’t been able to answer the call so to speak.”
With Pestano on the DL, and team has brought back up to the Major League roster relief pitcher Nick Hagadone.
This season Hagadone has made eight relief appearances for the Indians, putting up a 2.45 ERA (2 ER/7.1 IP) during his first stint with the Indians from April 12-30.
Hee was optioned to Columbus following his last outing for the Tribe on April 30 vs. Philadelphia (1.0 IP, 2 BB). Hagadone has also tossed 4.0 scoreless frames across 4 relief appearances for the Clippers.
Pestano in eight outings is 0-0 with a 2.25 ERA (2 ER/8.0 IP). His last appearance came in Game 2 of the Indians’ April 28 doubleheader on April 28 at Kansas City (1.0 IP, 1 H, 1 R-ER, 2 BB).
