CLEVELAND (92.3 The Fan)RED HOT KIPNIS: Jason Kipnis continues to be the spark plug for the Indians in their recent string of success of winning six of nine in the just ended homestand.

Kipnis enters Monday night in Baltimore hitting .283 with nine homers, 41 RBI, 35 runs and 17 steals, slugging .486.

The turnaround for Kipnis comes after a down and average month to start the 2013 season. He hit just .200 in the month of April, and then .261 in May before catching fire.

If the pace keeps up for Kipnis with the All-Star game less than a month away, he could find himself on the AL roster.

DOUBLEHEADER REMINDER: With the doubleheader Friday in Chicago vs the White Sox, the Indians will get the added benefit of adding another player to the roster, and there’s no doubt it will be a pitcher.

With Carlos Carrasco being sent down Monday, the team may not need just one, but two starters for Friday vs the Sox.

There’s no doubt the leading candidate for at least one start is Trevor Bauer. He threw for AAA Columbus yesterday, meaning when he takes the mound Friday it will be on regular five days rest.

In his last start in AAA, Bauer went just three innings, going 76 pitches. As for the other starter, that’s anyone’s guess. Could it be Carrasco as the 26th man?

A good guess based on the fact he could join the roster and then go right back to Columbus.

MYERS AND WOOD GOING TONIGHT: Both Indians relief pitchers Brett Myers and Blake Wood will go for the Indians tonight in Mahoning Valley as they work their way back.

The game will be vs. Auburn at Eastwood Field.

Myers is expected to throw an inning. He has previously made two rehab starts for AA Akron on May 17 and 22 throwing a combined 7.1 innings (0-1, 3.68 ERA, 7.1 IP, 3 H, 3 R-ER, 5 BB, 2 SO, 1 HBP, 1 HR).

ALL STARS COMING TO THE PROG: The Northeast Ohio Baseball Coaches Association All-Star Games will he held Tuesday at Progressive Field, featuring 150 area players and 30 area coaches in three games.

The teams are selected based on nominations from area coaches, who can nominate two players from their team. Games are tentatively scheduled to start at 9AM, 11:45AM and 2:30PM.
