The Lake Erie Monsters will now be known as the Cleveland Monsters after a joint press conference held today with the new Cleveland Monsters and the Columbus Blue Jackets, the NHL affiliate of the Monsters.
“As we enter the tenth anniversary of the Monsters we believe that there is no better time to incorporate the city of Cleveland into this great franchise,” Mike Ostrowski, Coo/VP of Franchise Operations for the Cleveland Monsters, said.
The Cleveland Monsters will feature new jerseys for the 2016/2017 season. They will incorporate wine and gold elements into the jerseys. They will wear the white jerseys at home until midseason and will switch to the black jerseys after midseason in accordance with the IHL’s new uniform rules.
“This brand refresh has been in the works for several seasons and we are thrilled to make the Cleveland Monsters a reality at long last,” said Ostrowski Tuesday. “In the wake of the Monsters’ Calder Cup Championship and the Cavs’ NBA title, and heading into the Monsters’ 10th anniversary season, we feel now is the perfect time for our organization to honor our great city and proudly become in title what this team has always been in spirit, the Cleveland Monsters.”
The new logo and new uniforms were unveiled in an outdoor press conference on the Gateway Plaza in front of season ticket holders and media. The logo was debuted as apart of a video and the uniforms were debuted with help of the Monsters Girls.
“It’s a great time to showcase who we are, where we play and the city we are from,” Ostrowski said.
The Cleveland Monsters will begin their Calder Cup title defense on October 14, 2016. Tickets are available at the Monsters new website clevelandmonsters.com.
