LeBron James, 2016 NBA Champion, already has his sights set on the future.
James recently appeared on the Open Run podcast (they’ve got a deal with ‘Uninterrupted’) and talked about a lot of things – including owning an NBA team.
“I feel like my brain as far as the game of basketball is unique and I would love to continue to give my knowledge to the game,” James said. “And I would love to be a part of a franchise, if not at the top. My dream is to actually own a team and I don’t need to have fully hands on. If I’m fortunate enough to own a team, then I’m going to hire the best GM and president that I can.”
So what does that make LeBron James – a future Mark Cuban?
Or maybe LeBron wants to follow in the footsteps of Michael Jordan? Earlier this summer, he did say that was a goal.
“But I … feel like I have a good eye for not only talent, because we all see a lot of talent, but the things that make the talent, the chemistry, what type of guy he is, his work ethic, his passion, the basketball IQ side of things, because talent only goes so far.”
James just turned 31 in the middle of last season, and recently signed a $100 million contract. So it’s not like he’s going anywhere soon.
“You definitely listen to the statistics and they talk about the prime is 26 to 31, or whatever the case may be,” James said. “I don’t quite know it anymore because I kind of just threw it out of my mind. I’m giving my body and giving my mind the best opportunity to just keep going while I can. If I can make a statement and make an impact while I can, I mean, why not?”
LeBron James, NBA owner of _______ (insert team here). Could you see it happening? Maybe we’ll find out in a decade.
