Brian Hoyer Rooting For Hue Jackson To Turn Browns Around

CLEVELAND (92.3 The Fan) – Brian Hoyer’s exit from Cleveland was unceremonious and less than harmonious.

But the Chicago Bears’ quarterback, who started Thursday night against his former team in the preseason finale, did not hold a grudge when asked about his return to FirstEnergy Stadium.

“It was cool. It was good to see a lot of familiar faces,” Hoyer said. “Just to be back in this stadium was fun for me.”

Hoyer took time before the game in between warm ups to visit with Browns first-year head coach Hue Jackson and catch up with old friends.

“I talked to Hue before the game and just told him I’m really rooting for him,” Hoyer said. “Obviously being a Cleveland native, other than the time I’m playing against them, I want the Browns to well.

“Hopefully he gets things turned around.”

Hoyer completed 12-of-16 passes for 112 yards in the first half of Chicago’s 21-7 win before taking the rest of the night off.

In 2 seasons with the Browns Hoyer started in 16 of the 17 games he appeared in and is the only quarterback out of 24 starters to record a winning record (10-6) since 1999.

Hoyer, who spent a tumultuous 2015 season in Houston, completed 56 percent of his passes for 3,941 yards with 17 touchdowns and 16 interceptions but inconsistent play eventually led to him losing the starting job in 2014 following a promising 7-4 start to the season that eventually saw the team lose their final 5 games.
