CLEVELAND (92.3 The Fan) – The Cleveland Browns claimed an NFL-high 5 players off the waiver wire Sunday.

The team was awarded running back George Atkinson, defensive backs Briean Boddy-Calhoun and Marcus Burley, defensive end Tyrone Holmes and linebacker Corey Lemonier.

Burley and Lemonier have the most NFL experience of the players claimed.

Burley is in his third NFL season out of Delaware and was originally signed by Jacksonville as an undrafted free agent in 2013. He has appeared in 26 career games with the Seahawks where he totaled 49 tackles, 7 passes defensed, 2 interceptions and 2 sacks incliding a pick and sack of former Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel in last year’s 30-13 loss at Seattle.

Lemonier enters his fourth NFL season out of Auburn after being a third round selection for the 49ers in 2013. He has appeared in 42 career games and totaled 29 tackles, 1 sack, 1 forced fumble and 14 special-teams tackles.

Atkinson, the former Notre Dame running back, was signed by the Raiders as an undrafted free agent in 2014, bouncing back and forth from the active roster and practice squad over the last 2 years. He appeared in five games his rookie season and this preseason, he led Oakland with 191 rushing yards on 19 attempts (10.1 average) and 3 touchdowns while adding 6 catches for 60 yards.

Boddy-Calhoun is a 5-9, 193 pound rookie out who was originally signed by Jacksonville as an undrafted free agent. He appeared in 39 games at Minnesota where he totaled 9 interceptions.

Holmes was drafted this year in the sixth round by Jacksonville out of Montana where he finished second in school history with 34.5 career sacks, including 18.0 last season. He recorded 1 sack this preseason.

To make room for the new additions, the Browns waived defensive back and fifth round pick Trey Caldwell, linebacker Cam Johnson as well as running backs Raheem Mostert and Terrell Watson and terminated the contract of defensive back Rahim Moore Sr.

Former Browns receiver Taylor Gabriel was claimed by and awarded to the Atlanta Falcons while defensive back Pierre Desir was awarded to San Diego.

Running back Rajion Neal, who was injured in the preseason finale and waived went unclaimed and reverted back to the reserve/injured list for Cleveland.
