CLEVELAND (92.3 The Fan) – Indians players were greeted by special packages at each of their lockers as they entered Cleveland’s clubhouse on Wednesday afternoon.
What’s in the box? Just a little bit of love sent from a 67-year-old fan, who wants to make sure her favorite baseball team stays hot.
Jacque Mazey of Perrysburg, OH sent over 40 packages to Progressive Field on Wednesday, each filled with a handmade red, white and blue afghan and a personalized note for each player, coach and TV broadcaster.
As an example, here is the letter addressed to Indians outfielder Michael Brantley:
Each afghan took 3.5-4 weeks to complete, has one million stitches and stretches over seven feet long. Directions for how to wash the large hand-stitched blankets were included in the packages.
“If people think we need help, I’ll take whatever they’re willing to send,” manager Terry Francona joked.
Even some of the new players, including outfielder Coco Crisp, received packages.
