CLEVELAND (92.3 The Fan) – It appears it didn’t take long for the Browns to settle on their emergency quarterback.

The team is going to sign Charlie Whitehurst according to his representation agency, SportsTrust Advisors who tweeted the news Monday evening.

Whitehurst, a third-round pick of the San Diego Chargers in 2006, has appeared in 25 games with 9 starts in his NFL career. He has gone 2-7 as a starter and completed 55.1 percent of his passes for 2,281 yards with 10 touchdowns and 7 interceptions.

Whitehurst, 34, has had stops in Seattle, Tennessee and most recently Indianapolis last season.

The Browns were in desperate need of veteran help at quarterback following injuries to their first 2 starters of the season – Robert Griffin III in Week 1 and Josh McCown in Sunday’s loss to Baltimore.

Head coach Hue Jackson indicated Monday afternoon that the team planned to work out quarterbacks and add one “as quickly as possible.”

Rookie third-round pick Cody Kessler is on track to start Sunday at Miami, although Jackson was not definitive in naming him the starter Monday afternoon.
