INDEPENDENCE (92.3 The Fan) – LeBron James will play Wednesday night against Orlando but Kyrie Irving will not when the Cavs tip off their preseason schedule at Quicken Loans Arena.
Cavs head coach Tyronn Lue revealed his plan Tuesday as the team continued training camp in preparation for the upcoming season.
“Kyrie’s not playing,” Lue said.
Lue and the Cavs plan to be cautious with minutes, especially early in the season, with Irving especially following his gold medal run with USA Basketball over the summer in Brazil. While Irving sits, LeBron James will play but his minutes will be watched closely. James did not participate in the team’s wine and gold scrimmage Sunday.
“For the most part we’re going to try to make sure our guys play at home for our fans,” Lue said. “After that we just have to evaluate and see how they feel.”
Lue said that his team is healthy as they tip-off the preseason.
Same System – Despite the absence of shooting guard J.R. Smith, who continues to hold out due to an impasse in contract negotiations, Lue hasn’t changed his offensive system.
“[There’s] no difference,” Lue said. “Still running the same thing, same system.
“There’s still things that guys should be able to run and we’ll see how it works out.”
With Smith out, Lue plans to turn to Mike Dunleavy, Iman Shumpert and Jordan McRae to fill in until Smith signs, assuming he does.
Tristan And The Kardashian – While TMZ and other tabloid publications follow every move of Tristan Thompson and his new girlfriend Khloe Kardashian, the Cavs forward is in no mood to talk about their relationship.
Thompson was asked about Kardashian attending the team’s scrimmage Sunday at The Q and the new-found attention the two are receiving on gossip sites.
“Training camp’s been great,” Thompson said. “I’m glad the fans came out for the scrimmage and everyone’s there to support us. Cavs basketball is back, baby.”
