The Cleveland Indians went with three catchers and 11 pitchers in their opening round series against the Boston Red Sox, but the Tribe made a pair of changes to their ALCS roster in advance of Friday’s matchup against the Toronto Blue Jays at Progressive Field.

Cleveland opted to go with an extra pitcher for the best-of-seven series, adding rookie left-hander Ryan Merritt to their 25-man group.

Given the Tribe’s current plan to start Mike Clevinger, backed by the bullpen, in Game 4, having an extra hurler on the roster might prove necessary in the longer series.

To make room on the roster, the Indians will carry only two catchers in the series vs. Toronto, leaving Chris Gimenez off the roster for their next-round matchup.
