CLEVELAND 992.3 The Fan) – Browns left guard Joel Bitonio underwent successful surgery on his right foot Monday, ending his season the team confirmed Tuesday morning.

Bitonio played the entire second half of the Browns’ 33-13 loss to the Patriots after sustaining the injury on the final play of the first half. He was placed on injured reserve Friday.

The Browns expect Bitonio to make a full recovery and be ready in time for the 2017 season.

“It is crappy news, but it is part of the game,” Bitonio said on Friday. “You get banged up out there. Hopefully, it is things you can play through most of the time, but this one is a little more serious than that so they put me on IR today. I’m looking forward to cheering my team on and helping these guys get in there and helping Cam [Erving] and helping some of the young guys coming along as best as I can.”

Bitonio consulted with Dr. Robert Anderson in Charlotte, North Carolina before having the Lisfranc procedure performed.

This marks the second straight season that Bitonio, who didn’t miss a snap as a rookie in 2014 after being selected in the second round, ended up on IR. Bitonio missed the final 6 games due to a left ankle injury.

“You never want to end the season hurt, and that is two years in a row for me now and that is just not something that I’m used to,” Bitonio said. “I’ve never been hurt in my life until the last two years. It was just a couple freak accidents, but I’m going to come back and I’m going to work my tail off and do everything in my power to come back better next season than I did this year.”
