The origin of Cedar Point goes all the way back to one hundred and forty-five years ago when in 1870 local businessman Louis Zistel opened up a combination bathhouse, beer garden and dance floor on the peninsula. In 1892 the first thrill ride was constructed with the Switchback Railway roller coaster. The 25 foot tall, 10 mile per hour “scream machine” was quite the attraction for its time.
