Andy Baskin
Andy leads the NewsChannel5 Sports Team as Sports Director and has a rich knowledge of Cleveland sports.
Before joining NewsChannel5, he was a sports anchor/reporter for WKYC-TV. While at that station, Andy was the sideline reporter for Cleveland Browns pre-season football with Brian Brennan, Sam Rosen, and Bernie Kosar. He also hosted the “Browns Pre-Game Huddle,” “Browns Tonight,” “Indians Tonight,” and “Indians On-Deck.”
Prior to that, Andy was a co-host of “Tribe Time,” the “Indians Postgame Report” and the Cavaliers “In the Post” on FSN Ohio.
A two-time Emmy award-winner for broadcasting, Andy has also won awards with the Society of Professional Journalists and the Cleveland Press Club.
Earlier in his career, Andy was a sports anchor for WBNS-TV in Columbus before joining Fox Sports Net Ohio. He covered every major professional sports team in Ohio, including the Browns, Bengals, Indians, Reds, Cavs and Blue Jackets, along with Ohio State football and the Columbus Marathon.
In conjunction with his work at WBNS-TV, Andy also served as a sports talk host for WBNS-AM Radio. In addition, he worked as a freelance sports reporter covering various sports news, including ESPN’s Big Ten Wrap-up show and Inside CART Television. Andy also covered the 1995 and 1997 World Series, and the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta. Further, Andy served as a reporter for ThisWeek Newspapers in Columbus covering high school sports.
In the early 90s, Andy worked as sports director (1990-1995) at KPAX-TV in Missoula, Montana. In 1994, the Missoula Independent voted him Best Sportscaster and best Sportswriter. While at KPAX, Andy was the television play-by-play announcer for the University of Montana and Missoula Mavericks Baseball. During his tenor at KPAX he was also a weekend sports anchor-reporter and hosted weekly golf and bowling shows. Andy was also a sports anchor for KGVO-AM in Montana where he was the radio play-by-play voice for the University of Montana and the morning sports anchor.
Previous to his work in Montana, the Ohio native was an on-air talent for WRRO-AM in Warren, Ohio. Andy was also a field producer for ABC-CBS TV Networks where he covered the NFL, PGA, LPGA and Senior Tour events. He was a chyron operator/sports assistant with Cleveland’s WJW-TV, and an on-air talent/sports director for WRQC-FM as well.
He spends his free time volunteering for Cystic Fibrosis, Diabetes Association, and the Greater Cleveland Lung Association. He is Co-Chair for the Bruce Baskin Cystic Fibrosis Golf Classic at Firestone Country Club and has hosted the Lung Association Buckeye State Tailgate.
He enjoys ice and roller hockey, softball and skiing. Andy is also an Assistant Ice Hockey coach at Gilmour Academy in Gates Mills, Ohio. Andy and his wife Cassy live in Summit County with their daughter Brynn and son Blake.
