Cleveland sometimes gets a bad rap for not having enough opportunities for dating. But this simply isn’t true–you just have to know where to go. Put on your social shoes and get ready to meet some great Clevelanders at these fun and varying bars and restaurants. Who knows, there may be someone waiting, drink in hand, to come say “hi!”

TownHall is a fairly new addition to the West 25th Street strip and brings a new and varying crowd to the area. During the day, this is a great place for a calm meal and a tasty craft brew, but at night, it turns into one of the hippest spots in the city. With a diverse group of customers as well as drink selection, lots of happy Clevelanders come here to unwind on the weekends.

ABC the Tavern
11434 Uptown Ave.
Cleveland, OH 44106

ABC the Tavern (located in Uptown as well as on West 25th Street) is a great low-key option for people who don’t want to wear their Sunday best in order to attract new friends. A normal bar without putting on any airs, this is a great place to meet folks from the University Circle area, whether they may be students, doctors or young professionals.

The Fairmount
2448 Fairmount Blvd.
Cleveland Heights, OH 44106
(216) 226-9463

The Fairmount is for the martini- and wine-drinking crowds. Though it offers a selection of craft beers, this bar has more of a relaxing lounge vibe, which is perfect for the cocktail drinkers that would like to have a lengthy conversation without being jostled by dancers or youngsters slurping cheap beer.

The Velvet Dog
1280 W. 6th St.
Cleveland, OH 44113
(216) 664-1116
www.velvetdogcleveland.com

The Velvet Dog is a nice in-between bar for the folks who would like to get out and socialize at a club, but don’t exactly want to dance all night. Indoors, you’ll find dance beats pumping throughout the bar and crowds dancing and mingling. If that isn’t quite your preferred method of meeting people, head upstairs to the roof, where you’ll find a calmer crowd, relaxing and chatting in the fresh air.

Barley House
1261 W. 6th St.
Cleveland, OH 44113
(216) 623-1700
www.barleyhousecleveland.com

Barley House is for the young dancing crowd. This bar tends to get a little more raucous than the other options, so you’re likely to bump elbows with some new faces and get to know people in a closer setting. Beginning as a pub, this is a great bar to socialize with some pals and get to know the rest of the bar goers, but after 10 p.m., the relaxed atmosphere turns into a party, complete with plenty of dancing and a dress code.
