An ingredient used for more than 3,000 years by almost every country in the world is as tempting now as it was at the start. Chocolate, beginning its existence as cacao, is versatile and dexterous, accompanying dishes or standing on its own, but it’s best as cake. Light and fluffy or dense and rich, chocolate cake is as varied as the people who enjoy it. These are the best places to find your new favorite slice.

The adding of fruit to chocolate is an age-old practice. Mostly the fruit is sweet enough to praise the layered flavors of chocolate, but at Wildflour Bakery the citrusy orange is chocolate’s partner. After tasting this zany combination; sweet and tart oranges with creamy chocolate in a cake that’s firm and moist, raspberry and strawberry will seem simple in comparison. An orange chocolate cake with chocolate frosting is a tangy compliment to any birthday or “Hey, It’s Tuesday!” party.
