House of Blues Cleveland opened in 2004 and is located in the East 4th Street entertainment district in the heart of downtown Cleveland. For those who remember the old Woolworth’s department store, this is HOB now. The venue spans 61,000 square feet and pays homage with numerous pieces of local art done by artist Peter Wood and iron work throughout the venue in honor of Cleveland’s strong manufacturing history. Odd fact: the venue keeps a metal box of mud from the Delta Mississippi underneath its stage. Concerts abound several nights a week ranging from blues and jazz to indie and classic rock. Crossroads, a restuarant located within the venue, is a great place to kick off the evening before the show.

Barking Spider Tavern
11310 Juniper Road
Cleveland, OH 44106
Hours: Open seven days a week, See schedule of events
The Barking Spider Tavern, while host to a curious name, is a great option for blues and jazz music. The tavern is one of the few remaining places that boasts live entertainment seven days a week. This is a smaller bar, so most of the acts are singer and songwriters or acoustic duos and trios, but there are a few jazz bands that play on a weekly basis such as George Foley and Friends. Open mic nights are very popular at this homey spot, so be sure to stop on Tuesdays around 8 p.m. to bear witness or join in the fun.

The Parkview has long been one of Cleveland’s best bars — the kind of place you head to after work to down a few beers with your pals. There’s nothing fancy here; the place smells like 80 years of history, but many agree that Parkview is the best place to to hear the blues in Cleveland. There’s even a blues jam every Wednesday night and Saturdays host free live music starting at 9:30 p.m. In fact, at least one night a week you’ll probably encounter a band with the word “blues” in it. Northeast Ohio legends The Numbers Band play here on occasion, so be sure to stop in.
