Cleveland offers a plethora of destinations for the meat eater, but the city also has choices for those who lean more toward vegetarianism. Many restaurants have features other than just the food to make the experience pleasurable. These four offerings are some of the best vegetarian spots in Cleveland. – Kurt D. Moore

Tommy’s started out in 1972 as a small soda fountain shop, gaining praise from “Rolling Stone” magazine for its milkshakes. The milkshakes are still there, as well as food for vegetarians, vegans and meat-eaters alike. Owner Tommy Fello goes for both a healthy and a family-friendly atmosphere. Tommy’s has an art gallery and bookstore, and the establishment is Wi-Fi ready, among having other features. The vegetarian menu is large, while omnivores will also find lots of choices. Hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and 7:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday.

Now That’s Class is in a class of its own. The restaurant offers homemade, mostly local and organic vegan food, including spicy jerk marinated tofu and enchiladas with corn, zucchini and cheese. It also has a wide selection of beers; two stages with live music, including punk indie and garage bands; and a touch of the vintage with classic arcade games, a 1967 pinball machine, an eight-track player and a jukebox filled with obscure songs. Now That’s Class offers Mexican food including meat, vegetarian and vegan options. Specials are offered throughout the week, including vegan pizza and calzones during the 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday happy hour. Hours are 6 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. daily. Check out the website for upcoming shows.

Saffron Patch offers authentic Indian cuisine. The menu includes several high-quality vegetarian dishes such as Baingan Bartha, which is charbroiled eggplant sauteed with ginger, garlic, onion and green peas. Hours are 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. weekdays for lunch and 5 to 9:15 p.m. for dinner.

Schtick’s Vegetarian Kitchen is located in the Gund Building School of Law at Case Western Reserve University. It is the place to go for cheap vegetarian grub, as well as kosher and lean healthy meals. It gets kudos for its fresh, healthy and best quality ingredients. Its gazpacho, black bean burritos and black bean chili are among its suggested items. Call for hours.
