CLEVELAND (92.3 The Fan) – Browns receiver/returner Josh Cribbs turned to Twitter Friday to defend Peyton Hilis and the team before joining Mark Schwab and Jeff Phelps on ‘Cleveland’s Talking Heads’ on 92.3 The Fan.

At the forefront of controversy has been Hillis’ absence from the Miami game and the lack of a new contract for him having an impact on his decision to sit out.

Hillis’ agent, Kennard McGuire, did not help matters this week when he told Tom Withers of the Associated Press that he advised Hillis to sit out.

Hillis spoke for himself Thursday night on Twitter saying that he would like to retire a Brown.

Friday was Cribbs’ turn to have his teammates back.

Cribbs tweeted referencing Hillis’ contract situation.

Cribbs also defended Hillis’ decision not to play against Miami with another tweet.

Shortly after the tweets, Cribbs spoke with Jeff Phelps and Mark Schwab on ‘Cleveland’s Talking Heads’ to discuss the tweets, the Hillis controversy and the Browns at the bye.

Cribbs is no stranger to contract controversy. He went through his own during the 2009 season before finally signing a 3-year $20 million deal in March of 2010.

His contract, that included $7.5 million in guaranteed money, was one of the first issues that Mike Holmgren addressed after taking over as team president.
