CLEVELAND (92.3 The Fan) – Never fear Chief Wahoo fans, your favorite Indian will still be a big part of Indians uniforms and hats moving forward.

There was some huge rumblings on Tuesday’s “Bull and Fox” after Plain Dealer reporter Paul Hoynes reported via Twitter that the Indians were doing away with the Chief Wahoo on the helmet, and only were going to have the block “C” on the batting helmets, both home and road.

While that is true, Indians Senior Director of Communications Curtis Danburg said the news was not all that much news, just a little misunderstanding on the subject.

Danburg explained on the air that MLB now has a policy in place where they want just one logo on batting helmets, and instead of the Chief the Indians went just with the block “C”.

Danburg said that technology as well as price went into MLB’s decision to scrap having different logos on home and away helmets, and just one logo instead.

Last year the Indians had Chief Wahoo at home on their batting helmets, and block “C” during road games. This year fans will only see the block “C”.

Danburg says they are not “walking away” from the Chief Wahoo in anyway, the team just wanted to present the block “C” to fans so when they go to other cities, they will be able to see the Indians celebrate Cleveland.

Chief Wahoo will remain on all the other Indians uniforms, as well as hats.

Danburg said that the team will wear the cream uniform with the block “Indians” on the front with the red hats with the block “C” on it for opening day Monday against the Yankees.
