On the August 25, 2013, edition of Cleveland Connection, host Katherine Boyd interviews Amber Zerker, a skater with the NEO Roller Derby, who is organizing a fundraiser for Stewart’s Caring Place. The fundraiser is called “Bust A Move Against Breast Cancer.” It takes place September 7, 2013. It’s a roller derby match and auction that benefits Stewart’s Caring Place. The league consists of 2 teams: Audio Assault and our WFTDA ranked team the Rock N’ Roller Girls.  WFTDA stands for Womens Flat Track Derby Association and is our governing body.  The Rock N’ Roller girls are headed to Division 2 playoffs in Kalamazoo next weekend! Really proud of our season. It’s a non-profit league that seeks to give back to our community.  There are other leagues that started auctioning off busts of skaters in order to raise money for Breast Cancer Awareness Organizations, and NEO ran with the idea as well.  It’s nice to be able to give back within our own community and Stewart’s is the perfect recipient. They are also a non-profit organization that runs on fundraisers and donations.  The people that work there are volunteers and they serve so many individuals and families.  In some organizations, people have so many “sessions” of therapy or massage they can go to…at Stewart’s no one is ever turned away.  They have groups, camps, a variety of therapies, a free wig room, you name it. Even though our NEO fundraiser  is “busts” Stewart’s provides services to individuals with all kinds of cancer. It’s really an amazing organization.  If you walk in, they give you a tour and you can’t help but want to get involved. This is the first year where we have cast breast cancer survivors.  These are women who use supports at Stewart’s and are looking for a way to give back to an organization that’s given them so much!
