On the November 24, 2013, edition of Cleveland Connection we learn about Angels for Kids. Host Katherine Boyd sits down with Shanyn McCourt, founder of Angels for Kids.
Angels For Kids Foundation is a local non-profit organization dedicated to helping improve the lives and self esteem of local homeless and underprivileged children. It has two annual events. The Back to School event focuses on giving children targeted in school a boost in their self esteem.
It takes children to an upscale salon the day before their first day of school and pampers them. After they receive the royal salon treatment, they open up brand new outfits that fit their personality. The clothes are from their store of choice and match the children’s style and personality.
The goal is for the kids to have the confidence they need to have a successful first day of school. Its second event is a Christmas event where it provides children with a Christmas that they otherwise wouldn’t have.
The kids participate in games, crafts, dance, enjoy a visit from Santa and not only do they open up multiple presents but they open up “THE” present.
After losing her grandparents and parents by the time she was 18, founder Shanyn McCourt was motivated to help children that were facing traumatic adversaries by providing them with hope and joy during formative moments in their lives.
Shanyn has channeled her grief into inspiration for others and her vision is now to expand the foundation in effort to assist more children during their time of need. If you would like to know more about Angels For Kids, please visit www.angelsforkidsfoundation.com
