CLEVELAND (92.3 The Fan) – The Cleveland Cavaliers are thought to be picking from 3 players for the No. 1 overall pick in next week’s NBA Draft.
One name may have been eliminated for them.
Kansas center Joel Embiid will undergo surgery Friday on his right foot after sustaining a stress fracture according to his agent Arn Tellem. Tellem confirmed the news to Yahoo! Sports and said that Embiid would not attend the draft in New York City as a result.
The Cavaliers medical staff reportedly discovered the injury during last week’s visit and notified Embiid’s camp.
ESPN was first to report that Embiid had sustained an injury but it is unknown where and when it occurred.
The Cavs worked Embiid, who averaged 11.2 points, 8.1 rebounds and 2.6 blocks this past season as a freshman at Kansas, out last week in Independence and he was scheduled to work out for Milwaukee this week.
In the last 4 years Embiid has sustained injuries to his knee, back and now foot in his brief 4-year basketball career. The back injury forced Embiid to miss the Big 12 and NCAA tournaments earlier this year.
Kansas swingman Andrew Wiggins and Duke forward Jabari Parker are also in the running to be the top pick for the Cavaliers, who may also trade the pick, next week.
