Luis Gonzalez, Former MLB’er and 2001 Home Run Derby Champion explains that while the increased media coverage of baseball definitely has helped the sport, it has taken away from some of what’s special about the game like the All-Star Game. Luis looks at the changes to the HR Derby with the clock and if he likes it. He says there’s more pressure on the pitchers to really crank a ton of throws in the zone and it will be interesting to see if the hitters tire themselves out.

Luis looks at some of the elite hitters today and which guy he feels has the best plate approach. He says the strikeout is more acceptable today so many guys really take bigger cuts and that’s okay now. He says that the HR Derby does impact guys mentally with their plate approach and trying to lift the balls and pull the balls so often can definitely impact their swings beyond just tonight.
