In the midst of an unexpectedly tough season, the Cleveland Indians have traded away a second major piece prior to Friday’s non-waiver deadline.
On Thursday, Cleveland sent outfielder Brandon Moss to the St. Louis Cardinals for pitching prospect Rob Kaminsky, one of the Cardinals’ first round picks in 2013.
The 20-year-old southpaw was 6-5 with a 2.09 ERA in 17 starts at Class-A Palm Beach, St. Louis’ High-A Minor League affiliate. Kaminsky has struck out 79 and walked 28 over 94 2/3 innings this season.
MLB.com ranks Kaminsky as the Cardinals’ third-best prospect.
Moss was largely underwhelming in his first season with the Indians, slashing .217/.288/.407 with 15 homers and 48 RBI (94 wRC+) in 93 games.
