Getting the whole family together for a rousing board game is a time-tested bonded activity. Thanks to the good people at the Penitentiary Glen Reservation, visitors can play a life-sized version of the classic Milton Bradley game, Candy Land. As an added bonus, the Reservation’s version of the game is designed to teach kids some important lessons about nature, so this game will be as educational as it is fun. Candy Land has free admission and is open 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. daily until Jan. 1, excluding Christmas, Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve.

Traditionally, Santa Claus visits the homes of children all over the world on Christmas Eve. However, this year, kids can return the favor by coming to see Santa, who has temporarily relocated his home to Crocker Park. Popping by Santa’s House is a great activity for kids because it allows children a chance to have a joyful holiday experience. And it’s great for parents because it gives them the chance to commemorate that experience with some very affordable professional photographs. Santa House’s has free admission and is open Monday through Saturday, 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Sundays, 12 p.m.to 6 p.m.

One of best parts of the holiday season are all the different lights displays that spring up to ward off the darkness that comes with this time of year. While neighborhood light shows are fun, the Gift of Lights takes that tradition to a whole new level. This 1.3-mile drive-thru presentation features more than 30 light up displays and a sensational 100-foot tunnel of lights that is positively breathtaking. The Gift of Lights costs $20 per car is open nightly from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.
