Most Saturdays at the Main Library downtown, there are learning events for kids, teens and the whole family. These are free and educational. There are different art labs, learning how to make a weather station and 3D printing, to name a few of the upcoming sessions. These activities are great for rainy days and to keep the kids engaged, creative and learning throughout the year. Registration in advance is required for some of these events.

Friday nights throughout the summer, Mapleside Farms offers a Concerts Over The Valley series that features different styles of music each weekend, beautiful scenic views and tasty BBQ and treats from Corbo’s Bakery. These concerts are only $2 per person and kids ages 16 and under are free. Have some fun with family and friends, dancing, eating and enjoying the sunset at these special concerts. The series starts June 6, 2014 and runs through August 29, 2014. There is also The Orchard House restaurant to enjoy lunch or dinner on a visit to the farm.

About 20 miles east of Cleveland in Kirtland, OH is Lake Farmpark. It is part of the Lake County Metroparks and has many wonderful activities and events for families to take advantage of for not much money. There are special weekend events like “Shearing Weekend” and “Working Dog Weekend,” which for a small fee, folks can learn about and join the staff as they shear the sheep for the summer or learn about working dogs and watch them perform tricks and have a parade. There are also photography contests, ice cream weekends and a beach. Most of these events and activities are under $5 a person. These are wonderful ways to connect with the family while doing some different learning and fun activities.

The summer tradition continues this year in University Circle. Wade Oval Wednesdays offers a summer concert series every Wednesday evening from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. starting on June 11, 2014. There will also be family movies shown after the concert on some Wednesdays this summer. These start at 9 p.m. and the whole event is free. This is a great way to get the family together to dance, laugh and relax with a movie outdoors during the nice summer weather.

Looking for something educational for the family? Check out the Great Lakes Science Center. With daily science demonstrations, movies in the omnimax theater and special exhibitions, like the Steamship William G. Mather and BioMedTech gallery, there will be something for everyone to enjoy. The NASA Glenn Visitor Center is a wonderful way to learn about space. The Great Lakes Science Center offers a variety of fees to work with your budget depending on which programs and exhibits one explores on a visit. Also, members enjoy free admission to several of the exhibits at the center.
