Lake Erie Monsters
The Lake Erie Monsters are a professional ice hockey team in the American Hockey League. They began play in the 2007–08 AHL season at the Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio. The team is an affiliate of the Colorado Avalanche of the NHL.
Cleveland State Basketball
Cleveland State Vikings men’s basketball started in 1929. Before as Fenn College they were known as the Fenn College Foxes. Cleveland State has been in Division I since 1972. They are a member of the Horizon League (1994–present) Cleveland State was formerly in the Mid-Continent Conference (1982–1994). Prior to 1982, Cleveland State was an independent program.

The Kent State Golden Flashes men’s basketball team represents Kent State University in Kent, Ohio. The Golden Flashes compete in the Mid-American Conference East Division and last played in the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament in 2008. Founded in 1913, the team gained national attention during the 2002 NCAA Men’s Division I Basketball Tournament by advancing to the Elite Eight as a tenth seed and posted ten consecutive twenty-win seasons, from the 1998-1999 season to the 2007-2008 season. Kent State has five total appearances in the NCAA Division I basketball tournament along with five Mid-American Conference tournament championships, five MAC overall titles, and eight MAC East division titles.

The Akron Zips Men’s Basketball team represents the University of Akron in Akron, Ohio. The team currently competes in the Mid-American Conference East division. The team first played in the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament in 1986 when Bob Huggins was their coach. The Zips are currently coached by Keith Dambrot, who has coached them since the 2004-05 season. The Zips won their first MAC East division title in 1998. In 2006, the Zips received an invitation to the NIT and won their first-ever post season game at Temple University before falling in the second round. In 2007, the team won their second MAC East title and tied the school record for wins in a season in the Division I era with 26. They also made their first-ever appearance in the MAC Tournament Championship game, which they lost on a last-second shot 53-52 to the Miami RedHawks. The loss cost them the MAC’s automatic berth and they were subsequently not selected for either the 2007 NCAA Tournament or NIT, despite finishing with a 26–7 record. In their most recent season, the Zips posted a 24–11 record (11–5 in the MAC) in 2008 which included a second-straight appearance in the MAC tournament championship game and a berth in the 2008 National Invitation Tournament. In 2008 the Zips officially announced they had signed a three-year partnership to be outfitted by the Lebron James line by Nike. They are now the only team with a LJ23/Nike contract. Nike has released several Zips themed versions of Lebron’s shoes. Some are available to the public, while others are exclusively for the members of the basketball team.
Burning River Roller Girls
Burning River Roller Girls or BRRG, are a women’s flat-track roller derby league based in Cleveland, Ohio. The BRRG are a member of the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA).
The Cleveland Gladiators are an arena football franchise based in Cleveland, Ohio which plays in the Arena Football League. The team is part of the East division of the AFL’s American Conference. The Gladiators play all of their home games at Quicken Loans Arena, which they share with the NBA’s Cleveland Cavaliers and the AHL’s Lake Erie Monsters. The franchise was originally based in East Rutherford, New Jersey and then later in Las Vegas, Nevada; it has been in Cleveland since the AFL’s 2008 season. The Gladiators have gone to the playoffs five times, playing in the Conference Championship once in 2008 and never reaching the ArenaBowl.
