Grotto Wine Bar is located in Cleveland’s historic Shaker Square neighborhood. The atmosphere indoors is romantic and inviting with stone pillars, arches and beige, faux-plastered walls. The establishment is operated by the Salerno Group, which also founded Gusto! Ristorante Italiano and Lago Restaurant. Grotto’s wine bar features a 1,000-bottle wine cellar encased in stone and brick. That big of a selection can make it hard to choose, but the staff is willing to help select a wine or match it up with a dish. Grotto Wine Bar features a well-rounded small plate menu with “piccoli piatti”dishes such as duck confit sliders, Kobe beef carpaccio and bruschetta. Grotto opens at 5 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday. The kitchen is open until 11 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, midnight Friday and Saturday, and 10 p.m. Sunday.

Market Avenue Wine Bar

The Market Avenue Wine Bar is a small but cozy establishment located in Cleveland’s Ohio City neighborhood. It is open 365 days a year and offers an extensive wine list, as well as tasty hors d’oeuvres. The Market Avenue Wine Bar features more than 700 wines by the bottle and more than 75 by the glass. In addition, 50 craft beers are available. The menu, which features items from Cleveland’s historic West Side Market, gets raves for its baked almond Brie. Hours are 4 p.m. to 1 a.m. Sunday through Friday and 12:30 p.m. to 1 a.m. Saturday.

D’Vine Wine Bar

D’Vine Wine Bar, located in Cleveland’s Warehouse District, has been called Cleveland’s most romantic bar, best wine bar, best upscale bar and best place to bring a date. It was one of the first restaurants to open in the Warehouse District in 1996. D’Vine Wine Bar features more than 60 wines by the glass and more than 150 by the bottle. The restaurant also has a cocktail list made from its own house-infused liquors. Its patio is especially popular in the summer. Hours are 4 p.m. to 1 a.m. Monday through Thursday, 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. Friday and 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. Saturday.

Cuffs is not the typical wine bar. The store, located in the Cleveland suburb of Chagrin Falls, sells men’s and women’s clothing and features a Hermès boutique. Its art gallery and wine bar make it a popular destination. Cuffs holds regular wine tasting events and scours over wine journals for suggestions. It pledges a passion for Burgundy and Bordeaux wines. It is an eclectic offering in an eclectic city. Cuffs is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
